About

Hi, I’m Julene Cole, owner of Learning Partner Tutoring. Being a reading specialist allows me to pursue a personal passion: helping struggling students get the support they need to succeed in reading and spelling. I love my job!

I am a Certified Barton Tutor, have a certificate in Orton-Gillingham methods for Decoding/Encoding from Michigan Dyslexia Institute, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Walla Walla University.

I am a mom of 3 young adult children, and live with my husband, Dan, in the Okanogan Valley of N. Central Washington. We particularly enjoy outdoor activities with family and friends–like snowshoeing and downhill skiing in winter, and hiking and river floating in the summer.

Testimonials

For many years, I have been a teacher in a multi-grade one-room school.  I have worked closely with Julene Cole (of Learning Partner Tutoring) for 3 1/2 years now, and I have been able to see first-hand what a capable, caring teacher she is. I highly recommend her services.  She has the knowledge and methods to help anyone struggling with reading and spelling problems resulting from dyslexia.  She is knowledgeable, caring, consistent, and communicates well with students.  She guides each student to the best methods for his learning style, leading with kindness, patience, and compassion. She truly has a deep desire to help those with dyslexia to succeed.

Julene is absolutely wonderful and literally a God-send. We knew that our daughter was dyslexic, but there was a lot we didn’t know about dyslexia and how the dyslexic brain works. Julene provided us with many great resources and introduced us to the Barton Program. We finally were able to thoroughly understand our homeschool struggles and realize that we weren’t just “doing it wrong” nor was there anything “wrong” with our daughter. Understanding dyslexia gave our daughter a new-found confidence and she fully embraced her unique brain and perspective on the world.  Through this process we also discovered that my husband was dyslexic and it shed light on his past struggles with school. Our daughter started the Barton Program with Julene, and she has very much enjoyed working with her. Julene is patient and kind and has a strong passion for tutoring dyslexic kids. I have confidence that Julene genuinely cares deeply for my daughter and wants nothing more than to see her succeed. The results have been tremendous. I am still in awe at the improvement we have seen in our daughter’s spelling, and quite often she will talk about the spelling rules she learned to figure out the spelling of a new word. The way she is learning how to spell, makes sense to her, and she even teaches her dad how to apply the rules too! If it wasn’t for Julene and the Barton Program, I believe we would still be floundering in our efforts to do school. This has changed our lives for the better, and our daughter is excited about her education and her ability to go far in life. I highly recommend Julene as a tutor and have nothing but praise for her and the Barton Program.

Working with Julene has been immensely helpful in furthering my education in ways that had not seemed possible beforehand. Reading, writing, and spelling seem possible now with the instruction Julene has provided me. Julene is very patient and I feel comfortable asking questions and being open with my disdain for the English language. I would absolutely and wholeheartedly recommend Julene to any dyslexic in good faith that she would be able to help with the sometimes overwhelming struggles of this particular learning disability.
